Cohutta Bush Tool
The Cohutta Bush Tool by Russell Reece is a nod towards the popular bushcrafting knife pattern inspired by Mors Kochanski. It came into existence from the legendary bushcrafter’s ideas on what would make the ultimate survival knife. While we feel the ultimate knife of any purpose is the one that you happen to have on you, this Bush Tool is a great candidate for any field, camping or bushcraft activities.
This Bush Tool is made from nicely tapered A2 tool steel, allowing for fairly easy edge maintenance, and a little more toughness than the popular O1 commonly found on bushcraft knives. Like O1, A2 is a tool steel that will patina with use if you allow it, but does have slightly better corrosion resistance over O1. 1/8″ A2 gives this knife a great balance of strength and fine cutting ability as required by Kochanski in an appropriate survival knife. The 8 3/4″ overall length with 4 1/4″ of cutting edge is a great size for a general use camp knife. Spalted Mango sits on white g10 and black micarta liners and is held together with two 1/4″ black micarta pins and a lanyard tube. Overall, this Bush Tool weighs in at 5.0 ounces. We think Russell did an amazing job designing a knife inspired from one of the great minds in outdoor living and bushcraft skills.
