This Osprey Tusk in 3/32″ skeletonized CPM154 with a Tapered Tang has a beautiful handle made from Redwood Burl over Natural with Black G10 Accent Liner with Natural Micarta Pin and Lanyard Tube. The flat ground primary bevel with a convex secondary on thin steel is extremely sharp and this stubby blade is ready to tackle those daily chores.
The overall length is 6″ with a blade length of 2 1/2″. This is not the smallest fixed blade knife that you may find out there, but it is about the smallest sized knife that we would say remains functional as a cutting tool that can be used for real work. If you like to pocket carry a fixed blade, this is a great size for those everyday needs.
Osprey Tusk – A Pocket Sized Fixed Blade
A fixed blade knife may never beat the convenience and ease of carrying of a folding pocket knife. There is simply no way to design a fixed blade knife and sheath that will sit as inconspicuously inside of pant pockets as a folder can. It is impossible. Yet many people still prefer to a fixed blade over a folder for both overall strength, safety and less moving parts to fail. Creating a small enough fixed blade that remains useful but compact enough to carry around in a pocket sheath is a challenge.
The Osprey Tusk is an attempt to meet this challenge and provide users with a quality fixed blade option for their everyday carry needs. The 6″ overall length is near the largest you may find to be able to reasonably pocket carry once you add a leather or kydex sheath. the 2 1/2″ blade provides ample cutting length while leaving enough handle for a useable grip that won’t tire your hand as much in extended use as smaller handled knives can.
The Tusk is a small, yet comfortable to handle knife that rides well inside a pocket as well as on a belt. A good blade shape for those delicate daily cutting tasks, but stout enough even in thin stock that you don’t have to baby it. For those looking to add an EDC style fixed blade to their folder lineup, the Tusk is a viable option.
